Hi there guys, I am an Aussie living at Horne Lake for the summer (we have no power or satelite at the lake)and i am keen as mustard to watch some games of the world cup, anything invovling Australia and i know Aus is playing Canada on the 29th sept, so surely you guys will be watching that one. Can you give any tips as to where i might find games being shown live, i.e. bars or pubs, or does your club have a club house where you will be showing games?
Thanks for any help you guys can offer
yours in rugby Duncan

Hey Duncan, welcome to Nanaimo. Unfortunately, Canada is not a rugby crazed nation and the networks don't cater to those of us who are. Shaw cable has picked up Setanta International Sports station and will be showing all the RWC games. Residents who subscribe to Shaw will be able to (for a small monthly fee) access Setanta at home. However, "commercial" establishments, such as pubs and our clubhouse (as we are a licensed facility), would have to pay royalties for access to Setanta. This fee is very high. As an example, a hotel in Victoria is charging $150 per person for a package to allow patrons access to all games. All Canada's games will be shown on the Sportsnet Channel as well, which will be available at pubs and our clubhouse. We are looking for alternatives but we may end up watching many of the games at our homes. If you get a chance, drop by our club on Thursday night about 7:30, after training, or on Saturday. We have 2 preseason games scheduled for early saturday afternoon. Bring your boots. If over 40, come to Victoria with our "Yoos to Bee" team for a season opening tournament. Our club is situated on Dover Road, behind the Canadian Tire at the north end of Nanaimo. Cheers, RJ
